Calvin Grigsby, Sr.
/IN LOVING MEMORY OF
CALVIN GRIGSBY, SR.
Calvin Burchard Grigsby, Sr., age 79, of Hope, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, in Daly City, California.
He was a pioneering attorney, investment banker, entrepreneur, and civil rights advocate who broke barriers as the first Black attorney at Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro. He later built one of the nation's leading Black-owned investment banking firms, successfully competing against Wall Street's largest institutions. His remarkable career included an appointment by President Bill Clinton to the board of the Albanian-American Enterprise Fund and participation in a U.S. trade mission to China with Commerce Secretary Ron Brown. He also helped finance Spike Lee's film Get on the Bus, inspired by the historic Million Man March, and participated in a Black-owned venture to reintroduce Pepsi-Cola to post-apartheid South Africa. These are just a few of the many extraordinary accomplishments that distinguished his life and career.
Above all, Calvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and mentor whose enduring legacy will continue to inspire generations.
